DENTAL BONDING

Dental bonding is a quick and inexpensive treatment that can help improve the look of your smile, and can often be completed in just one visit. It is ideal for making slight changes to the appearance of teeth, and is an affordable alternative to dental veneers.

What is Dental Bonding?

Dental bonding uses tooth-coloured composite resin to change the shape and appearance of teeth. This is the same material that is used for tooth coloured fillings. We use dental bonding to:

  • Cover up a tooth that is discoloured
  • Repair chips in teeth
  • Help to minimise or close gaps between teeth
  • Lengthen teeth that have worn down or are too small
  • Protect the root of a tooth that has been exposed due to receding gums.

The process is very kind to teeth as composite resin closely replicates natural tooth material and will work in harmony with your natural teeth. The composite resin can bond strongly to tooth surfaces and only minor tooth preparation is needed so treatment can be carried out without any injections and anaesthetic.

How It’s Done

The tooth is prepared by lightly roughening the surface. Next, the tooth thoroughly cleaned and dried, and the composite resin is expertly applied in small increments. It is hardened using a special light, and is shaped and polished. Composite resin is available in lots of different shades so the final colour will perfectly blend in with your natural tooth.

The results should last for quite a few years, but lifestyle habits such as, smoking and drinking tea and coffee, may eventually stain the composite resin and will need replacing.
